Chewymedia Video Workshop
Unlocking Your Video Potential as a Photographer
Are you a photographer who finds yourself surrounded by video content but aren't sure how to get started? With the rapid growth of video demand across social media, marketing, and storytelling platforms, it's more important than ever to be versatile in both photography and videography. Thankfully, modern cameras often offer high-quality video capabilities, making it easier for photographers to begin experimenting with motion. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the technical or creative aspects of videography, this workshop is for you.
With nearly 15 years of experience working as both a photographer and videographer, I have developed a deep understanding of the unique skills required for each discipline, as well as the similarities between them. This experience allows me to guide you through the process of transitioning from still images to creating engaging, professional-quality videos. In this workshop, we'll break down the core fundamentals, empowering you to walk away with the confidence and skills necessary to start producing high-quality video content.

Introduction (1hr)
To start the workshop, we will spend an hour laying the groundwork for our day together. During this introduction, I'll cover key concepts that bridge the gap between still photography and video. You'll learn about the core principles of video production, such as frame rates, resolution, and the importance of storytelling in video versus still photography. This will provide you with a strong foundation before we move into the hands-on portion of the workshop.
In addition to the basics, I’ll address any specific questions you may have about videography or the creative process behind it. This is a great time to voice any uncertainties, whether they are technical or creative. My goal here is to demystify video production by breaking down complicated terms and concepts into easily understandable chunks. By the end of this session, you'll have a clear idea of what we’ll be covering throughout the day and will feel more comfortable as we dive into the shooting phase.
Shooting (3hrs)
This is where the fun begins! Over the course of three hours, you'll have the opportunity to experiment with video shooting techniques, working alongside Caitlyn, our professional model who is experienced in both photography and video modeling. Caitlyn will bring their expertise and comfort in front of the camera to ensure you get dynamic and engaging footage to work with.
We'll begin by walking you through several different methods for shooting video, providing live demonstrations that cover everything from framing and composition to camera movement and how to capture natural motion. You'll learn the difference between shooting for a static image versus capturing fluidity in video,
You will have the opportunity to capture your own video content, practicing what you’ve just learned. Whether you're shooting in a natural light environment or in a studio setup, I'll be right there to answer any questions and provide real-time feedback. We'll cover both lighting conditions to ensure you're comfortable shooting video in a variety of settings.

Short Break (15mins)
After a busy morning of shooting, we’ll take a brief 15-minute break. This is the perfect time to recharge, network with fellow photographers, and reflect on what you’ve learned so far. Feel free to ask any lingering questions, and get ready for the editing portion!
Editing (1 hr 45 mins)
Now that you have your raw footage, it's time to bring it to life through editing. For nearly two hours, I’ll guide you step-by-step through the post-production process. With a projector to display the editing software, you’ll be able to follow along as I walk you through everything from importing your footage to making final color corrections.
We'll focus on both the technical and creative aspects of video editing, such as cutting your footage to enhance pacing, adjusting audio levels, and adding transitions and effects. By understanding these tools, you'll be able to refine your raw footage into a polished, professional-looking video. Throughout this session, I will also explain how to apply the same skills you already have as a photographer—such as an eye for composition and color—towards creating visually striking video content.
You’ll see how to go from raw footage to a final product that’s ready to be published, whether it's for social media, your website, or other platforms. I’ll also address any questions you might have during this process, offering personalized insights to ensure you feel confident using video editing software.
Post-Workshop Support
Once the workshop wraps up, you’ll have the tools and knowledge to create your own video edits of Caitlyn, using the footage you captured earlier in the day. But the learning doesn’t stop there. If you choose to, you can send me an edited video for feedback. I’ll provide constructive advice to help you refine your technique and develop your own unique video style.
Workshop Goals
My ultimate aim with this workshop is to help remove the barriers and unnecessary fear surrounding videography. While video may seem intimidating at first, the skills you already possess as a photographer can be easily transferred to video production with just a bit of guidance and practice. Throughout the day, I will emphasize the similarities and differences between photography and videography, providing a clear path for you to explore video at your own pace.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll have the foundational skills needed to start shooting and editing your own video content. More importantly, you'll leave with the confidence to further explore this exciting and increasingly essential medium, allowing you to unlock your creative potential and develop your own video style.
